What we do
|
Independent Age provides practical support, financial help, and lifelong friendship to more than 5,000 people over the age of 70 in reduced financial circumstances.
We provide a range of support and services including: volunteer visitor support, grants for emergencies and equipment, and hospital stay packs and bedding. Our work is undertaken by over 1200 volunteers who support and befriend beneficiaries.
Our vision
Our vision is of a society where older people in the UK and Ireland lead the lives they aspire to.
Our mission
Independent Age is driven by the needs of older people and aims to enable them to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
|
Our values
Respect - we will treat everyone equally, with dignity, respect and as an individual who has their own desires and needs.
Honesty - we will strive to be open, honest and accessible in all that we do.
Caring and professional support - our support will be tailored to the needs of the whole person and we will always aim to be caring and considerate.
Empowering - our support will enable older people to have choices and exercise control over their own lives.
Trust - we will strive to be diligent and trustworthy.
Our priorities 2008-2012
We intend to build on our key strengths; our 'family ethos', our commitment to lifelong support for older people and our committed volunteer and staff base. We will continue to provide life-long financial and pastoral support to our beneficiaries. We will seek to extend support in three key areas:
-
tackling social isolation through, for example, befriending
-
practical help in the home and preventative services
-
access to information, advice and advocacy.
Our objectives
We will:
-
provide lifelong, individual practical and financial support to older people so that they can lead independent lives
-
develop services that support older people's independence, health and wellbeing and active participation (whether directly or with other organisations)
-
research the needs of older people to help us fundraise and become known as experts in this area
-
develop staff and volunteers to enable them to support older people and respond to local needs
-
improve operational effectiveness to ensure high quality, professional activities.
