Who we help

who_we_help

Independent Age helps older people on low incomes to live with dignity and peace of mind in their later years.

Whatever the need, we help in direct, practical ways to make a real difference to people's lives.

We do not include the value of property when calculating eligibility but there are special arrangements for those who own their own home. For further information and an application form, please email our Care Services Department or phone 020 7605 4200. All enquiries are handled with discretion and in the strictest confidence.

Owing to demand, we are not currently able to take referrals for new beneficiaries but we expect to begin again in late 2010.

Some of the people we help

Mrs_West

Some years ago, Mrs West turned on the radio and caught the tail end of a talk about Independent Age. As she was, in her words, 'a lady of very slender means', she got in touch. We have provided a new cooker and help with her decaying windows.

'My home is now very cosy, I'm a really happy lady. Hooray for Independent Age!'

Suffering from chronic heart failure, Mr Hastings, 79, was virtually housebound. Getting out and about meant planning a route with the fewest steps and somewhere to rest every twenty yards or so. With our help, he was able to obtain a mobility scooter and found a new lease of life. He now goes out every day to the shops, and to feed the swans on the nearby river.

'What would I do without Independent Age and the feeling of belonging somewhere? You have taken away the worry. I am so grateful as I didn't know what to do or where to turn.' Mrs T, Essex
